With the Christmas and New Year celebrations over, it’s now time to pack away the decorations until next year.
Although January 5 is commonly regarded as the day to take down the tree, there are a number of locations accepting trees for recycling from January 2.
From Croke Park to Dún Laoghaire Pier, here is the list of places in Dublin where you can recycle your Christmas tree for free in January.
Dublin City
Dublin City Council is offering a free Christmas tree disposal service from January 5 to 18, 2025.
Trees will be recycled into compost and wood chips and can be dropped off at various recycling centres and local drop-off points across the city.

Croke Park
The council has warned that dropping outside of these timeframes is considered a litter offence and it may be punishable by a fine.
Fingal
Fingal County Council will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling from January 2 to 16, 2025. Only Christmas trees will be accepted; other items like stands and green waste will not be.

Estuary Recycling Centre will be open during its normal opening hours.
Millennium Park, St. Catherine’s Park, and other park car parks are accessible during park opening hours only.
South Dublin
South Dublin County Council will be offering free Christmas tree recycling from January 3 to 13, 2025.
This service is for domestic household trees only, with a limit of one tree per household/vehicle.

Signage will be placed at each location to indicate it as an official recycling point.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will be offering free Christmas tree recycling from January 3 to 13, 2025, with collection times from 9:30am to 3:30pm at the following locations:

Additionally, Ballyogan Recycling Park will accept one Christmas tree per car free of charge for the entire month of January 2025 (except on New Year’s Day when it is closed).
