Organisers of the New Year Festival in Dublin say there is a range of events that are free across three days of celebrations to make it “accessible for all”.

However, the countdown concert is a paid for event with Cork singer Cian Ducrot headlining the show at Dublin Castle later tonight.

Tickets for the event cost €49.90 each plus fees.

For those who may not want to wait until midnight to ring in the New Year, an earlier countdown is taking place at Dublin Castle at 6pm.

This is also a ticketed event, with tickets available from €12.90 plus fees per adult, and family tickets available for €34.90 each.

The three days of the New Year Festival is being organised by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with the Office of Public Works (OPW) and local councils.

It is expected to draw thousands of people into the city, and other parts of Co Dublin where New Year Eve celebrations are planned.

Firework displays will light up the skies at Howth and Dún Laoghaire harbours at around 8pm.

According to the latest weather forecast from Met Éireann, it will be mostly cloudy in Dublin tonight with outbreaks of rain for a time.

The rain will then clear southeast later in the night and some clear spells may develop. Moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds will be strong for time also.

Other events taking place around the country include a Festive Family Féile in Galway which begins at 6pm.

Temperatures countrywide will be between 2C and 5C.
