A 29-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer near Belfast earlier this week.
Kyle Knell of Tynan Drive in Newtownabbey faces eight other charges linked to the incident on Monday.
Police officers were called to the Beverley Drive area of Newtownabbey after a serving police officer was shot with what appears to have been his own gun.
A senior officer later said the incident was not terrorist related.
Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman is investigating the discharge of the police issue weapon.
As well as a charge of attempted murder Mr Knell is accused of unlawful imprisonment of a second man, the assault of that man and a woman; theft and possession of the police weapon and ammunition; possession of the weapon under the influence of drink or drugs and trespass.
The nine charges relate to different addresses in the same area.
A detective sergeant said he believed he could connect the accused to the charges.
A defence solicitor asked the officer to confirm that the incident had not been a “targeted shooting” and that it had not involved any element of “pre-planning”.
The officer agreed with both statements.
An application for a reporting restriction on the name of the injured police officer was granted.
The court heard it had been widely reported that he was a police officer and he was now considered vulnerable.
Mr Knell was remanded in custody.
