THERE was joy for Knocklyon United’s Women’s Soccer team who claimed the O’Neill’s Cup.
The Knocklyon side got the better of Kilcock 1-0 in the AUL Complex in a wellcontested final with Jessica Menton grabbing the winner on 36 minutes.
Only in existence three years, this is Knocklyon’s first cup title having won a shield competition two years ago. “We are delighted to have won the cup for the first time. It was a great result for the girls as they have worked hard all season,” said Knocklyon women’s coach Amanda Mowlds.
“It’s been really hard to get the section off the ground and we are delighted for the girls to have won the cup which is a great boost.
“We are also in the running for the double in the EWFL and it’s great for girls football in the area that we are now starting to win things.
“There is plenty to look forward to now next year. We are going to move up a division and hopefully we can build on this success”.
