Alanna Quinn Idris has given a “special shout-out” to the four people involved in an attack that left her legally blind at the age of 17.
In December 2021, she was hit in the face with the saddle of an e-scooter by one of four youths involved in an attack on her and her friend Louis O’Sullivan on the Ballyfermot Road in Dublin.
The attack left her unconscious with a shattered tooth, broken cheekbone and ruptured eyeball. She permanently lost vision in her right eye despite a number of reconstructive surgeries.
In a video posted to her TikTok account, Ms Quinn Idris, now 20, showed her followers the medication she is using and the steps she is taking to manage her injuries. She currently has stitches having recently undergone her sixth surgery in just three years.
“As you can see I’m all stitched up and bruised and swelling, so it’s great,” she said.
“I just wanted to give a special shout-out to the four fellas who are responsible for me only having one eyeball for the rest of my life.”
She then showed her followers a bag including antibiotics, suction cups she uses to take out her eye, hand sanitiser, sterile water and painkillers.
“I actually really enjoy having to do all of this stuff, because it’s just so fulfilling for me and I just get so much enjoyment out of having to do all this,” she said.
“Next we have my little case that has my fake eye because I don’t have a real one anymore.”
In December, one of the four males involved in the attack, Josh Cummins, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with the last two years suspended after admitting to assault causing serious harm to Ms Quinn Idris and assault on Mr O’Sullivan.
Another man, Darragh Lyons, was jailed for four-and-a-half years for his role in the attack.
Another accused, described in court as ‘Suspect A’, is before the courts. The fourth male, ‘Suspect B’, has not been identified.
