When Pádraic Joyce composed that text to Kieran McGeeney on the night of their All-Ireland group stage draw in Sligo, projecting that they would meet again in an All-Ireland final six weeks later, there may have been a degree of bonhomie in the exchange.

Joyce and McGeeney enjoy a good relationship, to the point that even the morning after the semi-finals just under two weeks ago, they had a phone call to wish each other the best.
