The report of the Dublin City Centre Taskforce is scheduled to be published this month, the Taoiseach has said.

Simon Harris said he received the report on Friday and had been briefed by taskforce chairman David McRedmond.

Mr Harris said the document had yet to be brought to Cabinet but added that he hoped it would happen in a number of weeks.

“I think it’s a really good piece of work, I think it’s a really ambitious piece of work,” he added.

“It draws on good and useful ideas that were already out there, and it also has a number of new and interesting suggestions.

“It makes recommendations in a number of areas around how we can get a vibrant city centre, and it has actions, some of which will fall to the city council, some of which will fall to central government, and some of which will fall into others, but I hope to be in a position to publish it this month.”

Mr McRedmond, the chairman of the taskforce and chief executive of An Post, was tasked with leading the body responsible for making recommendations on improving the city centre’s public realm, safety and experience.

It included 12 members, including gardaí, trade union representatives as well as community and cultural representatives.

It examined areas from Parnell Square in north Dublin to Stephen’s Green in the south of the city.
