The Mayo legend has had some ups and downs since taking the role in 2022 but he hailed their exploits in recent months as an “unbelievable season” with promotion to Division 3 of the League secured.

Moran, who also doubled up as U-20 boss this season, seems to have the bit between his teeth to continue the Leitrim project for the next three years with an upcoming meeting with county board officials to decide his future.

“That hasn’t been decided. We’ve only stopped two weeks ago. I had a two-year term, plus one. So yeah, I’m kind of in contemplation mode at the minute if I’m being honest,” the Electric Ireland ambassador said, having completed his three-year term.

“Yeah, the plan is to go back and meet the county board next Monday week, just a few bits and pieces to go over in my own head. I do think the key thing for this is that it’s not a year.

“It can’t be a year, it has to be a three-year term and you have to build now to make it better. I do feel that you make the right choices if you’re there for more than a year.

“If you’re there for a year, you kind of make choices just for yourself. Even this year in the Tailteann Cup, we were bringing on U-20s, we were developing them.

“You could have just brought on an older player if you wanted to up your own kind of publicity. But if you’re bringing on the younger players then I think you’re doing the right thing for Leitrim.”

Moran is keen to get get sharpshooting forward Keith Beirne, a Tailteann Cup All-Star in 2023, back on board for next season after he cited burnout for opting out of the county fold this season.

“Oh Jesus, what do you think?!” Moran said when asked if he hoped to have Beirne back. “He’s currently in America. That conversation will definitely be happening, if we all commit.

“Keith is an outstanding player, a player that not just me but all of Leitrim wants back playing. There’s another player call Ryan O’Rourke, you might have seen him along the way.

“But Keith and himself are the same age and you should see those boys when they play together, it’s just that kind of telepathic relationship so if we could get the two of them on the field together it would be great.”
