Leading Irish amateurs Annabel Wilson and Roisin Scanlon have today received invitations to tee it up in the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Carton House from August 29 to September 01.

It will be the first time that either play in a professional event and both will be hoping to follow in Sara Byrne’s footsteps and finish as the leading amateur after the Douglas star took the honour at Dromoland Castle last year.

Lurgan native Wilson made history in 2022 by becoming the first Irishwoman to reach the semi-finals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay and reached a career-high of 90th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings as a result.

Now representing Castlerock Golf Club, she emerged victorious in the Ulster Strokeplay back in June and advanced to the knockout stages of the Women’s Amateur Championship at Portmarnock.

Scanlon grew up in Woburn, England, but the 16-year-old’s father Anthony hails from Limerick and she has represented Ireland at Girls’ level and currently attends the Albany Golf Academy in the Bahamas.

Last August, she won the Curry Cup on the Steph Curry Underrated Golf Tour, winning events at Chambers Bay and Las Vegas before taking a third victory in the Tour-closing event at Lake Merced in San Francisco.

This year, she successfully defended her Stephen Gallagher Foundation Classic title in England, and, like Wilson, will make her first appearance alongside the stars of the Ladies European Tour.

This year’s event promises to be a fun-filled adventure for all the family, with kids’ face painting and a kids’ zone being offered in the spectator village and once again, free car parking is available and all under-16s gain entry free of charge.
