WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The town of Dublin hosted their annual Peanut Festival on Saturday.

It took place at the Dublin Elementary Center.

This tradition started in 1992 when the city needed a way to raise funds to build a gymnasium for Dublin Elementary School. They held a peanut festival to earn money and honor their agricultural heritage. It was successful and became an annual tradition. Now it’s always held on the third Saturday of September and draws crowds of over 3,000.

At the event, people enjoyed rides, games, food, vendors, and of course peanuts!

This year also featured a classic car show where enthusiasts showcased their fancy old-school rides.

This event brought people from different counties

“This is my spare hobby. I’m a member of a car club in Clinton North Carolina and I’m representing the Old lightning rods in Clinton, we come to all different shows like this. It raises money for special events, “said Larry White.

The town of Dublin where the events were held.is known as the peanut capital of the south.
