Armagh

Blaine Hughes – 8

Hardly put a foot wrong in goals and was brave with his kick outs in extra-time when the game was on the line.

Paddy Burns – 7

Quietly efficient and made good interception early in second half to kill a Kerry counter attack.

Aaron McKay – 8

Let Sean O’Shea inside for Tom O’Sullivan’s goal chance but was nearly the only time he found himself out of step.

Peter McGrane – 7

Kicked an early point after spending a lot of time shadowing Paudie Clifford. Yellow card late in first half made life difficult. Withdrawn at half-time as Armagh management removed the risk.

Barry McCambridge – 8

Tracked David Clifford from early and took some hits there but popped up with a brilliant goal to revive Armagh’s challenge.

Tiernan Kelly – 6

Neat and tidy and made his contribution before he was withdrawn before extra-time

Aidan Forker – 7

Played a captain’s role early in the second half landing two nice points to keep Armagh ticking over in the third quarter. Withdrawn on the hour mark and brought back into the game in extra-time.

Niall Grimley – 8

Two first half points capped a fine performance. Was still winning dirty ball deep into extra-time. Has a knack for popping up in the right place.

Ben Crealey – 7

No shortage of industry and effort from Crealey in the middle third but was replaced just shy of the hour mark.

Oisin Conaty – 6

Made himself busy but kicked a poor wide unopposed late in the first half with his side three in arrears. Withdrawn for Jason Duffy.

Rian O’Neill – 8

Kerry tried their best to keep one of Armagh’s star turns to the fringes but O’Neill still produced a few big moments. Beautiful kicker of the ball who seems to thrive under pressure.

Joe McElroy – 7

Another who put in a huge shift for the team when sent after Paudie Clifford in the second half.

Rory Grugan – 6

Produced a beautiful, improvised pass for Murnin’s goal chance in first half but he has been much more influential for Armagh in the past.

Andrew Murnin – 7

Had Jason Foley for company at times and a good goal chance in first half that was saved. Couldn’t influence things as much as he would have liked.

Conor Turbitt – 8

Armagh’s top scorer coming into this game with 3-18, 3-12 from play. Had to bide his time to make his impact but was the game winner when reintroduced in extra-time to land two crucial points.

Subs:

Stefan Campbell for McGrane (HT), Jason Duffy for Conaty (49), Aidan Nugent for Crealey (57), Ross McQuillan for Forker (60), Oisin O’Neill for Murnin (62), J Og Burns for T Kelly, Shane McPartland for Turbitt (both before extra-time), Conor Turbitt for Nugent (80), O Conaty for Grugan (85)

Kerry

Shane Ryan – 6

Made a crucial point blank save from Andrew Murnin in first half but his mistake led directly to Armagh goal that gave them new life.

Paul Murphy – 7

Typically busy and tidy in defensive duty and gave Kerry vital oxygen with his second half goal.

Jason Foley – 7

Another strong performance from Foley who didn’t give Andrew Murnin much space when he tracked him. Looked to be forced off through cramp.

Tom O’Sullivan – 7

Only David Clifford and Sean O’Shea had scored more for Kerry in the championship coming into this game but O’Sullivan missed a good goal chance. Forced off late through injury.

Brian Ó Beaglaoich – 7

Strong first half where he swept up a huge amount of loose ball. Kicked a second half wide but put in a solid shift overall.

Tadhg Morley – 6

Offered good protection to his full back line but didn’t get many opportunities to break forward and punch holes.

Gavin White – 6

On Rian O’Neill from early before tracking Stefan Campbell for a period in the second half. Another who didn’t get many chances to roam forward.

Diarmuid O’Connor – 7

Had some good moments and landed a nice point in the first half but Armagh won the middle third battle.

Joe O’Connor – 6

Like his midfield namesake, O’Connor ran himself to a standstill under intense Armagh pressure. Replaced late on by Barry Dan O’Sullivan.

Tony Brosnan – 7

Kicked beautiful first half point but showed a real appetite for work when collecting an Armagh point attempt that came back off his own post. Put down a strong season.

Paudie Clifford – 7

Threatened to take charge of the game at times and was most prominent of Kerry forwards at the end when they needed to try and force something. Needed more help.

Dara Moynihan – 6

Put in his usual industrious shift for Kerry and chipped in with a point before being replaced by Cillian Burke.

David Clifford – 6

Had some good moments, not least his first score brilliant free from 13m line under the Hogan Stand but Kerry couldn’t get him in the game enough.

Seán O’Shea – 6

After two first half points O’Shea looked set for a big day but influence faded as the game wore on.

Paul Geaney – 6

Picked up a yellow in the second minute that left him walking on thin ice. Won a mark that turned into a free but the only one of the starting Kerry forwards not to score from play.
