Suspected explosive devices that were brought into a Dublin garda station by a member of the public have been made safe.
The Army’s bomb squad was called out to Ballyfermot garda station at midday today after being requested to examine the devices.
They had been discovered in the area by a member of the public who brought them to the station.
As a precaution, the station was closed and the area cordoned off with the Defence Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit attending the scene.
This evening gardaí confirmed that the devices were removed for destruction and technical examination.
“The area has since been declared safe and the station has reopened. No offences were disclosed,” gardaí said.
A Defence Forces spokesperson said that the EOD team “responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in relation to a suspected explosive devices found in the Ballyfermot area.
“A cordon was put in place for the security and protection of residents in the area.
“Following an assessment of the devices by the EOD team it was made safe at the location and the scene was handed over to AGS. This operation has now concluded, and the scene has been reopened to the public,” the spokesperson added.
