Post Summary

The Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Sociology, specifically in the area of Quantitative Sociology, to join us on 1 August 2025. The Department seeks applications from academics who will contribute significantly to our research and teaching excellence in one of the Department’s research streams (https://www.tcd.ie/sociology/research/): Migration, identities and diversity; comparative inequalities, education and families; power, conflict and resistance; digitalisation and social networks.  

Candidates research portfolio should substantively connect to the Department’s research streams and must demonstrate a strong quantitative research orientation as well as associated research skills. In particular, candidates must demonstrate experience in advanced quantitative approaches such as rigorous causal inference, analysis of longitudinal data, cross-nationally comparative designs, or innovative methodologies from digital social research. The appointee will be expected to contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision. Moreover, the appointee will engage in wider public and policy debates, as well as to foster collaboration with other Departments in the College and external research bodies.

The primary purpose of this post is to contribute to teaching, research and academic service at the Department of Sociology in the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin. The successful applicant will have an established record in research in the field of quantitative sociology and will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

Person Requirements

Qualifications

  • Excellent academic record and have completed a Ph.D. in Sociology (or cognate discipline).
  • Academic publications in quantitative sociology in peer-reviewed, SSCI-ranked academic journals and publications of equal standing of recognised originality and value.
  • Previous teaching experience in quantitative sociology and social science.
