Krewe

Where is your favourite place to eat?
I’m a foodie but I’m very easy to please, so give me a simple burger and chips and I’m happy. Krewe restaurant has been unbelievable, they just have great food. They built a new restaurant in Charlemont and the decor inside is amazing. It’s a great place to go for a date or just for some nice vibes.

Barbers

Dublin’s best bar?
I’d have to go with Barbers in Grangegorman. My university moved to the area after Covid, so it has a special place in my heart, because it gave us our first glimpse of normal life after the pandemic. The best part about it though, is that they’re dog friendly. You don’t get many of those in Dublin – and every time a dog comes in, they take a polaroid and hang it up on the wall, which is a really nice touch.

Where is your favourite place to bring friends/family when they visit Dublin?
It’s got to be the Guinness Factory. I know you’ve probably heard it a thousand and one times, but that experience as a whole is something else.

Favourite Dublin neighbourhood?
This is a tricky one, but I think the one that tops them all is Ranelagh. It has everything you’re looking for in a good neighbourhood – beautiful houses and nice food options, and it’s so well connected and close to town.

What do you like most about Dublin?
It’s a relatively small city when compared to major cities around Europe – it’s not overcrowded. That makes it easier to get around, and to get to know so many different kinds of people on a day-to-day basis. I do a lot of interviews, and I get to see the range of personalities and diversity in the people.

Mick Medeiros

Your Dublin music?
Travy has done so much for the Irish rap scene, specifically over the last year or two – he’s really put Ireland on the map. Him and Elzzz had the first ever rap album to go number one in Ireland, so 100% Travy has got to be up there. I also have to give props to Bless, one of the most underrated artists in the country right now. He gives me Irish Drake vibes, with the art that goes into his music and how he makes his videos.

Favourite building?
I’ll go with Kilmainham Gaol. I remember going there for a school tour and there was the whole narrative about how haunted the building was, with the bloodstains on the walls and ghosts walking around. The vibes are so eerie that it makes it almost feel real! And it’s an important part of our history. It’s one of my favourite buildings, because it’s left such a lasting impression on me.

Most iconic thing about modern Dublin?
It would have to be the diversity and different cultures. When you go to Fade Street or Drury Street, and you see so many people from different backgrounds socialising and enjoying themselves, playing afrobeat or Brazilian music, it’s great to see how culturally accepted that has become.

Your Dublin hero?
The main one that springs to mind, especially after the summer, is Rhashidat Adeleke. She’s been so inspirational, humble and down to earth. I’ve been lucky enough to meet her multiple times and interview her at the Olympics in Paris. I remember watching all of her races in Paris from the stands, and I was brought to tears watching her run, because I know how much it means to her. She’s done so much for the Black and African community in Ireland, as well as the country in general.
