Businesses and residents on 90 streets face fines of €150 if they don’t comply

90 streets in Dublin’s inner city will have to comply with a ban on plastic bin bags from today.

Households and businesses around Grafton Street and Temple Bar face fines of €150 if they continue to put their rubbish out in sacks.

Since 2016, more than a thousand streets that didn’t have space for wheelie bins have been allowed to leave out plastic bags that are routinely ripped open by animals. This is part of efforts to keep the city cleaner and stop seagulls and other animals from ripping open the sacks.
