Louth GAA’s attempt to redress the imbalance that exists on a number of fronts in both Division 3 tiers is inevitably going to be hindered by the three-point matches.
Ultimately, the present system, whereby there is a split in the top two tiers after 11 matches, is not designed for six-, seven- or eight-team leagues and while the additional reward works reasonably well in Division 3A, where there are half-a-dozen facing each other three times, from next season onwards, when there will be two pools of seven in junior football, there are major issues.
