Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson revealed online last night that the only cheese and onion crisps she will eat are the Irish brand Tayto.

In the run-up to the elections last night, Ms Lawson put a post up on X showing a cauldron stocked full of crisps. The picture of the hoard was accompanied by the caption: “The crisp cauldron has been restocked. More supplies hidden if it needs to be replenished throughout the night, of course #generalelection”.

One user jokingly replied that they were “Disappointed there’s no cheese and onion walkers at first glance. Say it isn’t so @Nigella_Lawson ”.

Ms Lawson replied by saying “The only cheese & onion crisps are the Tayto ones and I can’t find them near me.” She then went on to further explain in a second reply that the only cheese and onion crisps she enjoys are the Irish brand Tayto.

It is unclear whether the celebrity chef was referring to Northern or southern Irish Tayto, which are made by different companies.

The replies to her revelation ecstatically encouraged Lawson to try a crisp sandwich, while some tried to sway the celebrity chef towards another Irish brand, Keogh’s instead.

UK election coverage was, unsurprisingly, the main topic of interest across the media last night, as results rolled in from count centres across the country. Labour followed through on predictions that they would win the general election UK for the first time in 14 years after a landslide victory against the Conservative Party.

Many UK residents, like Lawson, stayed up through the night to follow the historic election that has generated huge amounts of international attention.
