DUBLIN, Ga. (WGXA) — The City of Dublin announced the temporary closure of the local Oconee Gym as work begins on a major $2.9 million renovation Project.
According to a press release, the Oconee Gym Renovation Project is funded in partnership with Laurens County and the State of Georgia.
Located in Oconee Park, the gym served Dublin’s Southside neighborhood for decades the facility is now in “critical disrepair.” However, the City of Dublin says that once renovations are complete the gym will serve as a hub for the community.
Mayor of Dublin Joshua Kight said, “The Oconee Gym Renovation Project is a point of pride for our Southside neighborhood and all of Dublin. This investment will transform the old gym into a safe, active space for our young people and families, promoting health, wellness, and community engagement.”

According to the release, the renovation will transform the space and provide new recreational activities like basketball, fitness classes, and mentorship programs.
Citizens can expect the renovations to be complete by the Summer of 2025, per the release.
