Brian Lohan says Clare could have taken off ‘six or seven marquee’ players at half-time

“Our lads are a tough bunch. After playing poorly in the first half, we just put it up to them,” he said after Clare’s two point win over Kilkenny.

“There could have been six or seven changes made at half-time but they really toughed it out.

“They showed a great bit of character and I’m really delighted for them.

“We’d spoken about what we wanted to do all week and the last two weeks in training had gone really well but just in the first half it didn’t happen and that was a breakdown on so many levels.

“At half-time, we could have easily taken off six or seven marquee guys but in fairness they did tough it out. We changed up one or two things. And I’m delighted for our supporters that came up here too.”

“We’ve got good players. Kilkenny were very good, but we were ordinary so that was really disappointing for our group, particularly considering what happened in the first half last year and the year before.

“We were lucky we had a second half to come and played a much better brand of hurling. We were much more committed and much more assured.”
