Shelbourne 3-0 Peamount

Shelbourne have made sure the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division title race will be decided on the final day after seeing off Peamount 3-0 at Tolka Park.

Shels came into the Dublin derby knowing that a failure to win would give Athlone the chance to wrap it all up when they take on Bohemians later in the day (7.35). Instead, that clash at Lissywollen will give De Town a chance to build a gap ahead of the next weekend’s climax.

It was a composed performance from Shels who did much of the heavy lifting before the break. A wonder strike from Alex Kavanagh from a free-kick put them ahead, the Ireland international curling the ball into the top left corner from all of 30 yards.

Kate Mooney doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time, stroking home, low and right, with a touch of class. And Mooney would have her second in the 50th minute, reacting quickest after Christie Gray’s effort was pushed away by Niamh Reid-Burke.

Shels have the better goal difference, which has them top of the table ahead of the Athlone v Bohs clash. The Reds will finish their campaign away to Shamrock Rovers, with Athlone going to Galway.

Shelbourne and Athlone will also be meeting the FAI Cup final on the 20th of October.
