Cill na Martra GAA Club has been allocated grant aid of €116,496 which will enable the Muskerry divisional club to upgrade club facilities ahead of Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta 2024.

The grant aid means the GAA club will be able to commence work on improving the car parking area and the grounds around the dressing rooms.

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West Aindrias Moynihan has welcomed the funding allocation for the progressive club who are based in the Gaeltacht. “It means the club will be able to improve car parking area and the grounds around the dressing rooms. I am delighted that Minister Thomas Byrne was able to approve this significant funding to Cill na Martra GAA in recognition of the huge work carried out by the community to promote the Irish language,” he said.

Deputy Moynihan continued: “The club are doing huge work preparing for Comórtas Peile next month and have already been upgrading the grounds. This funding will help improve the car parking and the area around the dressing rooms. Locals will have the benefit of these amenities for many years after the Comórtas.”

Fine Gael TD for Cork North West Michael Creed echoed the sentiments of his constituency colleague. “I’m delighted that Gaeltacht Minister for State Thomas Byrne has allocated grant aid of €116,496 to Cill na Martra GAA Club, in recognition of the excellent work done by the club to promote the Irish language.”

Deputy Creed said: “My understanding is that the funds are to be used to resurface the car park and build a footpath to the gym. The grant will cover 80% of the cost of these works, and the news will come as a huge boost to the club as they prepare to host this year’s Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta at the beginning of June.

“The local committee has been working for over a year to put plans in place for the Comórtas, which is the highlight of the summer for Gaeltacht communities up and down the country. I know that they will do a great job and I look forward to attending matches in Cill na Martra during the Comórtas,” he added.
