Just over ten years after captaining Ballincollig’s Coláiste Choilm to victory over Scoil Aodháin Glasnevin in the Post Primary Schools Senior B Football All-Ireland Final as a Leaving Cert student, Inniscarra’s Seán O’Donoghue will be hoping to taste sweet success at Croke Park once again as captain of his county in Sunday’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final.

If O’Donoghue (28), who became a father last week, can inspire his teammates to see off Clare and secure the Leesiders’ first Liam McCarthy cup since 2005, it will be the culmination of the commitment the talented yet not always imposing hurler demonstrated to improve and lead from the front from a very young age.
