Bank of Ireland customers have expressed frustration after the bank’s online application went down again.
The bank’s 365 Online app is out of action, impacting consumers trying to carry out banking transactions on laptops, on tablets and on mobile phones.
One customer commented on X, formerly called Twitter: “Here we go again with Bank of Ireland.”
Another frustrated customer told the bank: “Perhaps you might so good as to actually post a notice for people on your website and socials so we are not waiting on customer support on the phone.”
Other customers said it was annoying that the online banking app went down on a Friday when people are trying to carry out transactions ahead of the weekend.
The bank subsequently said the system was restored just after mid-day, having been down for one hour and 40 minutes.
As recently as April Bank of Ireland’s online banking services suffered an outage.
And in August last year the bank was hit by a major outage which led to significant disruption for customers and chaotic queues at some ATMs.
Asked about the latest outage, Bank of Ireland said: “Our app and 365 online are currently unavailable.
“We are working to fix this as soon as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
In March last year, Bank of Ireland was fined €750,000 by the Data Protection Commission (DPC) following an investigation into 10 data breaches involving the bank’s Banking 365 system.
In April 2022, Bank of Ireland was fined €463,000 for data breaches affecting more than 50,000 customers.
In December 2021, the bank was fined €24.5m by the Central Bank for regulatory breaches related to its IT systems and related internal controls.
