The cyclist who died after being hit by a lorry in Castleknock in Dublin last Thursday has been named as Derek Doyle.
Mr Doyle, 50s, was cycling at the junction of College Road and Castleknock Village when the incident happened at around 4.30pm.
He was the husband of Fingal County Cllr Tania Doyle and the father of Hazel Doyle.
Cllr Doyle ran in the General Election in the Dublin West constituency this year as an Independent candidate.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh sent his condolences to Mr Doyle’s family in a statement.
He said: “He was a big supporter of her political career and, on behalf of all the councillors and residents of Fingal, I would like to extend my condolence to Cllr Doyle and her family on this sad and tragic news.
“Solas síoraí dó.”
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly added: “The staff of Fingal County Council are shocked and saddened at the passing of Derek Doyle, who in addition to being the husband of Cllr Tania Doyle, was also the father of our colleague, Hazel Doyle.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Doyle family at this very sad time and I offer our condolences to them on behalf of the staff of Fingal County Council.”
Mr Doyle’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, 31 December at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, Cabra West, followed by cremation in Glasnevin crematorium.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
