A protest in solidarity with the people of Gaza will kick off in Dublin at 1pm this afternoon.

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign are organising the event which will call on the Government to introduce sanctions on Israel for its crimes against Palestinians.

Protestors will meet at the Garden of Remembrance before marching up Dawson Street to Leinster House for a rally.

The United Nations report that roughly 70pc of people killed in the war in Gaza have been women and children.

The organizers of the protest are calling on the next government in light of the general election to prioritize sanctions on Israel.

Organizers of the event said: “As a general election looms, we need to let our candidates know that that we want meaningful sanctions on Israel, and we want them now.

“For over a year now, Gaza has known only death, destruction and displacement. More than 43,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocide. This includes more than 17,000 children.

“10,000 more are missing, their fates unknown. Around 100,000 people have been injured in Israeli attacks.

“Famine and disease stalk the land, while the healthcare system has been eviscerated.

“Almost two million people have been displaced, made homeless, and living precariously knowing that at any moment the worst may happen to them or their loved ones,” they added.
