After two events, Tom Doherty has edged ahead at the top of the DIGA Order of Merit.

The Killarney golfer tops the rankings following his victory at Portumna Golf Club and a third-place finish at Thurles Golf Club.

This is the first year that the Disabled and Inclusive Golf Association (DIGA) has introduced an Order of Merit.

The player crowned overall Order of Merit champion this season will collect the Trevor Hillen Memorial Trophy named after DIGA founding member, Trevor Hillen.

To be eligible, players must post scores in five DIGA events.

This season, the OoM will also support selection of a DIGA team to play in a Tri-nations event at Stackstown GC on September 9th and 10th. This will be another first for the Association, with disabled golfers from England and Wales competing against each other.

Doherty leads the ever-consistent Vera Smyth (Portumna) by two shots, with Caolan Munnelly (Tullamore) a further shot back.

This season DIGA, supported by Golf Ireland, has expanded the number of events on offer to players seeking a competitive outlet, or simply a social round of golf.

There are no classification criteria needed to play at DIGA events. DIGA aims to create a community of golfers who share a passion for the game. Events bring beginners and experienced players together in a relaxed environment.
