Aontú election candidate Michael O’Dowd cnvassing commuters as they disembark from the Matthews bus in Dublin.
Aontu candidate Michael O’Dowd met commuters from Dundalk, Drogheda and Bettystown earlier this week as they stepped off the Matthews Bus in Dublin.
Speaking to them O’Dowd was taken by the number of people who said they would gladly sacrifice the long commute for a job nearer home.
“As an Aontú candidate, I am committed to creating strong local employment opportunities to secure a vibrant future for our community” he said.
“Over the years, we’ve seen the loss of major employers like Smith Packaging, BD, Wasdell, M&S, and D Hotel, which has left too many of our people facing long commutes to Dublin just to make a living.
“This isn’t sustainable, nor is it the future we should leave for the next generation.
“With extensive experience as a project manager with Enterprise Ireland, I have helped drive major investments in local industry here in Louth. I know what it takes to bring businesses to our area, and I am ready to use that knowledge to make Louth a hub for industry, innovation, and growth.

“Local jobs are critical, but so too are placements for apprentices. Building a strong future means giving young people practical, hands-on experience and the chance to start meaningful careers close to home.
“I am calling on local employers to join us in this effort by creating placements for apprenticeships. By investing in young talent today, we ensure a skilled workforce and a thriving local economy tomorrow.
“Together, we can create a community where families can thrive, careers can grow, and young people can build a future right here in Louth.”
