Surrounded by fields that appear to stretch all the way to the Dublin/Wicklow Mountains, Ballycorus Road in South Dublin has a definite country vibe, yet it’s only 30 minutes to the city centre.

Unlike modern housing estates, the detached properties lining this road have names, not numbers. Ashieanna is a case in point. Located halfway between Loughlinstown and Kilternan, it’s accessed via electric gates that open on to a sweeping driveway.

Bordered by tall trees and hedges, the landscaped gardens with their witch hazel, apple, cherry blossom and walnut trees are like something straight out of Bloom — which is no surprise, given that they were designed by a gold medal winner from the annual festival, Colm Doyle.

The owners also engaged interior designer Helen Turkington to weave her magic. With 3,455 sq ft to play with, her professional touch has given each room a relaxed, elegant feel.

At 280 sq ft, the entrance hall is almost the size of some studio apartments. It leads on to a living room, a study and an open-plan kitchen/breakfast/family room. Also at ground level are a sunroom, utility room, guest WC and a TV room/playroom. Upstairs are five double bedrooms (three ensuite) and a family bathroom.

Ashieanna is within the catchment area of several schools and despite its rural aspect, it’s only a five to 10-minute drive from shops, bars and restaurants and other amenities in nearby Carrickmines, Cabinteely, Shankill and Enniskerry.
