DUBLIN Airport has confirmed that they will be “fully operational” today despite a number of flights being cancelled due to Storm Darragh.
The capital’s airport said that strong winds overnight left a small number of “go arounds” and diversions were put in place.
Dublin Airport also revealed that a number of other airlines were forced to remain on the tarmac overnight until it was safe to travel once again after being diverted to Dublin.
They are now, however, operating as normal this morning with all diverted planes heading back to their initial destinations.
Dublin Airport said: “Dublin Airport is fully operational this morning.
“Strong winds continue which has resulted in a small number of “go-arounds” and two diversions over the past few hours.
“The early wave of inbound transatlantic flights have all landed other than an Aer Lingus flight from New York, which diverted to Brussels.
“Overnight, Dublin Airport welcomed a total of 13 diversions from other airports. Five of those aircraft departed later, with the other 8 provided with a stand for the night.
“As always, passengers should contact their airline directly for updates regarding specific flights.”
A number of flights were delayed with some cancellations in both Dublin Airport and Cork Airport last night.
Some of the arrivals flights delayed in Dublin Airport currently included Frankfurt, London, Turin, Bodrum, Glasgow, Leeds, Seville, Lanzarote, Liverpool, Lisbon, Budapest and Naples.
Airlines with delayed flights today included Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Hisky and Air France.
Air France’s flight from Paris to the Dublin was cancelled due to Storm Darragh.
A KLM flight from Cork to Amsterdam at 6am this morning was also cancelled.
Ryanair chiefs warned earlier of “potential disruption” due to Storm Darragh.
They issued a message to passengers through their website yesterday morning.
It read: “Potential disruptions to/from Ireland (Fri 06 Dec) due to Storm Darragh.
“Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from Ireland on Fri 06 Dec should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.
“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by Storm Darragh, which is outside of Ryanair’s control and affects all airlines operating to/from Ireland on Fri 06 Dec.”
Ireland currently remains under a yellow wind warning, after all red warnings were lifted overnight and the orange warning elapsing at 10am.
The yellow weather warning will remain in place until 3pm today.
