DUBLIN, Ireland: Starting September 1, Dublin Airport will implement new rules regarding liquids in hand luggage, with different guidelines for each terminal.
In Terminal 1, passengers must adhere to the existing restrictions: all liquids must be in containers of 100ml or less, placed in a single clear 1-liter bag (20cm x 20cm), and visibly displayed in the security tray. Each passenger is allowed only one 1-liter bag.
Additionally, large electronic devices like laptops and tablets must be removed from bags and placed separately in the security tray.
In Terminal 2, while the same size restrictions for liquids apply-containers of 100ml or less in clear bags-there are no limits on the number of bags or containers. Passengers in Terminal 2 can also keep their electronic devices in their hand luggage without needing to remove them for screening.
Dublin Airport Managing Director Gary McLean explained that these changes are due to the installation of new C3 scanners, part of a broader rollout across all Irish and European airports equipped with this technology.
“The rollout of C3 scanners is at different stages in Terminals 1 and 2,” McLean said. “In Terminal 2, all security lanes now have C3 scanners, ensuring every passenger uses one. However, the rollout is taking longer due to the older infrastructure in Terminal 1, and passengers may encounter either the new or older screening technology.”
The airport aims to complete the installation of C3 scanners across both terminals by October 2025. McLean emphasized the importance of following these new guidelines to ensure a smooth experience at security checkpoints and avoid unnecessary delays.
He encouraged passengers to prepare for security screening by visiting the Dublin Airport website for further information on the new procedures.
