DUBLIN Bus has announced extra late-night services to carry 50,000 more passengers over the Christmas period.
There will be additional bus departures on the company’s 24-hour services and more NiteLink offerings.
It comes as later DART and commuter train services also get back underway each weekend.
Dublin Bus spokesperson, Blake Boland, said: “We will have 45 additional departures and night service routes on specified dates. We’re also going to have six extra days of nightlink services.
“So that’s an extra capacity of more than 50,000 extra passengers that we’re going to be putting on throughout December.”
A full Nitelink service will now operate between Thursday to Saturday next weekend and Thursday to Monday the following week, as well as December 27, 28, 30 and 31.
In addition to the Nitelink services, Dublin Bus also has 10 24-hour services which are in operation seven days a week.
Dublin Bus Director of Service Operations, Gwen Morgan, said: “We have been working hard with the National Transport Authority (NTA) to really focus in on the best routes and times to help get people home from Dublin on these nights. It takes considerable investment to allocate the resources.
“We’re proud of all our drivers, inspectors and other employees behind the scenes in Dublin Bus that will make this happen.”
Dublin Bus has also unveiled its full Christmas 2024 schedule, ensuring passengers can plan ahead during the festive season.
Passengers can expect weekday services to operate as usual on December 12, 19, 20, and 23, with Nitelink and 24-hour services running alongside.
On Christmas Eve, December 24, services will continue throughout the day, but all routes will have their final departures at approximately 9 pm.
Regular Nitelink services will not be available this day, so travellers are advised to plan their journeys early.
For Christmas Day, Dublin Bus will be taking a break, so no services will operate.
A Saturday schedule will be in place on December 21, 27, 28, 30, and 31.
INCREASED DEMAND
Additionally, early-morning departures will run on certain routes to accommodate increased demand.
Nitelink and 24-hour services will also be fully operational on these dates, making it easier for night-time revellers to get home safely.
On December 22, 26, and 29, as well as New Year’s Day, a Sunday service will operate.
However, Nitelink will not run on these dates, so passengers should plan alternative routes for late-night travel.
TOURIST TRAVEL
Popular tourist services like the City Tours and Ghostbus Tours will operate on selected dates, though both will pause on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Ghostbus Tours will also be unavailable on 19, 21, and 29 December.
St Stephen’s Day will see an early start for some key routes, including the 15, 39a, 41, C1, C2, C5, C6, G1, G2, and N4, which will commence operations from 5 am.
