Dublin could get at least one more game in the 2028 European Championships after Northern Ireland failure to become one of the five host nations in the UK and Ireland. The IFA has finally admitted defeat in its bid to host matches, after the collapse of the proposals to redevelop Casement Park, a large but derelict GAA stadium in west Belfast.
Uefa had already made contingency plans before the British government announced late on Friday evening that it was pulling the plug on its involvement, as the costs of the planned reconstruction had now rocketed to at least £400million, more than quadruple the figure when the project was proposed around a decade ago.
