DUBLIN, CA — Dublin could possibly host a multi-use event center to host sporting events, concerts, conventions, conferences and more. On Wednesday, Visit Tri-Valley announced that it plans to work with local leaders to create a state-of-the-art multi-use facility somewhere in the Tri-Valley that will feature at least 100,000 square feet of flexible space.

The center will support regional, national, and international competitions in sports like volleyball, basketball, fencing, and gymnastics, among others, Visit Tri-Valley said in a news release. In addition to hosting sporting events, the center will be able to host large-scale concerts, trade shows, conferences, banquets, retreats, and more. It aims to feature advanced audiovisual technology, divisible meeting rooms, hybrid meeting capabilities, and state-of-the-art acoustics.

In its 2023 Strategic Plan, Visit Tri-Valley identified a growing need for a central sports complex capable of accommodating and attracting a wide range of sporting events. Since 2018, sports tourism has brought 107,000 attendees to the Tri-Valley, who have purchased a total of 33,000 room nights. However, the lack of a large-scale facility has “hindered the destination from reaching its full potential in sports tourism,” according to Visit Tri-Valley.

Preliminary projections suggest that the venue will host more than 185 annual event days, attract 130,950 attendees, and generate an additional 24,000 room nights per year.

The organization said it is looking at “top sites” in Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore due to their accessibility and proximity to hotels, restaurants, and transportation. It expects development to begin within the next three years, after a site is designated, funding is secured, community support is gained, and the design is finalized.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about the Multi-use Event Center right here in the Tri-Valley,” Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert said in a statement. “I believe it’s just what the Tri-Valley needs to generate civic pride, create more jobs, and increase visitor spending. It will help to put the Tri-Valley on the map as a world-class sporting, entertainment, and meetings destination.”

“It will drive more business, visitor spending, and it will be an incredible venue for the benefit of all of us,” Visit Tri-Valley President and CEO Tracy Farhad said in an announcement video. “This event center is going to showcase what the Tri-Valley has become increasingly famous for: being at the heart of innovation.”
