2025 which will be The Year of the Snake.

The Dublin Lunar New Year festival was launched earlier today.

Nine days of events kick off on January 25th, with the festival’s flagship event happening on Sunday 2nd of February, a day of free festivities in Meeting House Square.

2025 isThe Year of the Snake – which symbolises wisdom, transformation, and resilience.

People are invited to take part and enjoy workshops, art exhibitions, live performances, film screenings, storytelling, comedy, games, tasty food experiences and so much more.

This festival is supported by Dublin City Council and includes events for the whole family to enjoy. 

It aims to celebrate, promote and deepen the understanding of the Asian-Irish relationship.

Communities that celebrate the Lunar New Year which include China, Vietnam, South Korea, North Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Mongolia, Indonesia, and Brunei.

Dublin Lunar New Year Festival Ambassador Gonchigkhand Byambaa welcomed the announcement of the programme:

“I am deeply honoured to be nominated as Dublin Lunar New Year’s Ambassador.

“The Lunar New Year, Known as Tsagaan Sar, is the year’s most important celebration for Mongolians. Growing up, Tsagaan Sar was a magical time for me.

“Let us use this time to come together, celebrate each other’s unique customs, and exchange heartfelt wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead. Happy Tsagaan Sar!

:May the year of the Snake bring you wisdom, beauty, and kindness. Speaking today, Dublin City Council Arts Officer Ray Yeates said: “The Lunar New Year is a very special celebration for Dublin.

“For those Dubliners whose tradition celebrates this special time of the year it brings memories and connection with home and family. Dublin City Council is delighted to support this New Year of the Snake.”
