DUBLIN, Ga. (WGXA) — A Dublin Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter is asking for volunteer drivers to help veterans in need get to their medical appointments.
The DAV chapter at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, which serves about 49 counties across middle and southern Georgia, says that providing access to healthcare for elderly and/or disabled veterans in rural areas can be difficult without the proper resources.
“Rural Georgia is beautiful, but getting veterans to their appointments from the many distance locations in our service area is quite a challenge, making the need for volunteer DAV drivers critical,” said Dublin VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) chief Keith Griffin.
The organization is asking for the community’s help to provide elderly or disabled veterans who are unable to get to their appointments due to financial or medical hardship, with the transportation they need.

“I can’t say enough about the contributions that our volunteer drivers make. Without them we would not be able to meet our veterans’ needs. As far as I’m concerned, the folks that volunteer to drive those DAV vans and help our veterans are heroes. If you are a veteran who needs to see a doctor but can’t get a ride, seeing that DAV van drive up can be very reassuring,” said Griffin in a release.
If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering to drive for the DAV or volunteering at the Dublin VA, contact Keith Griffin at 478-272-1210 ext. 72439 or Keith.Griffin@va.gov to learn more about qualifications and how to file an application.
