The annual festival sees iconic buildings, monuments, bridges and statues lit up with vibrant projections and colourful displays.

This year’s event includes new locations including the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, Newcomen Bank, the James Joyce Bridge, and the Liffey Boardwalk.

They will join regular landmarks such as the GPO, Millennium Bridge, Samuel Beckett Bridge, and the Custom House, with lights set to sparkle until the end of December.

Now in its fourth year, Merrion Square Park will once again be transformed from November 29 to Christmas Eve as part of Dublin Winter Lights.

This year, it will feature an impressive 8-metre snow globe hologram. Tickets will be available from November 8, with a €2 booking fee per adult.

A “relaxed viewing timeslot” will be offered at Merrion Square Park from 5pm to 5.30pm on Thursday through Sunday evenings, catering to neurodiverse visitors.

“The annual Dublin Winter Lights Festival is a wintertime favourite for both locals and visitors,” said Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan.

“This year promises to be even better, with new locations and artists. I’m really looking forward to the full programme and seeing the city in all its sparkling glory.”

The council noted the event’s low energy consumption, using comparable power to household appliances, with six kettles powering the GPO lights and the Custom House display consuming about the same as an electric shower.

Artists worldwide were invited to submit designs for projections on the GPO and a new immersive 360-degree experience at Collins Barracks, with winners to be announced early next month.

Additionally, Newcomen Bank will feature projections by NCAD students who participated in a Video Mapping Competition with support from the French Embassy in Ireland.

A primary school children’s art competition will see winning entries displayed at Barnardo Square, with prizes awarded by the Lord Mayor, and the artwork featured on his Christmas cards.

At George’s Dock, Constellations, a 16-minute installation by Studio Lemercier, will use projected light on water particles to form shapes in the air.

Clarke Square at Collins Barracks will also host an immersive visual and soundscape event, designed by eight international digital artists. Tickets for this event will be available from November 8, with a €2 charge per adult.
