Dubliners can avail of free one-day tickets for polling day on November 29

Dubliners voting in the General Election this Friday can avail of a free bike ride to their polling station.

DublinBikes has announced free journeys on polling day to encourage greater voter participation.

From midnight until 11.59pm on November 29, one-day tickets for the bike-sharing scheme will be free of charge, a saving of €3.50.

The DublinBikes scheme has facilitated approximately 38 million journeys since its launch in 2009 and hopes to increase voter participation this Friday with the offer of free one-day tickets.

To redeem the special offer, users must log on to dublinbikes.ie or use the official RedClick DublinBikes app and select the ‘Promotions’ subscription option.

They should then select the ‘Free RedClick: Pedal to the Polls’ option. New users of the bike rental scheme will need to register.

DublinBikes hopes to encourage greater voter participation with this initiative

“Ensuring Dubliners can easily access polling stations is a priority for us, and we’re delighted to partner with RedClick on this initiative,” said Brendan O’Brien, Head of Technical Services, Environment and Transportation Department at Dublin City Council.

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to creating a more connected, voter-friendly city.”

The DublinBikes scheme recently gained a new sponsor in car and home insurance company RedClick.

Coca-Cola was the first major sponsor of the scheme in 2014, with Just Eat and Now TV later stepping in to support the service.

“At RedClick DublinBikes, we are committed to making it easier for people to move around Dublin,” said Lisa Silver, Head of Marketing at RedClick.

“Offering free day passes on election day is our way of supporting the democratic process and helping the Dublin community get to polling stations quickly, sustainably, and without stress.

“We hope this initiative makes it a little easier for voters to make their voices heard,” she added.
