Linda Kelly and Katie George Dunlevy had a huge 2024 and celebrated it in winning style at the RTÉ Sports Awards in Dublin last night

Katie George Dunlevy and her tandem pilot, Linda Kelly, enjoyed an incredible year with gold medal success at the Paralympics and World Championships and added the icing on the cake last night.

The paracycling tandem duo won the Team of the Year at the annual RTÉ Sport Awards, presented in Dublin last night.

Irish junior road and track international, Lucy Bénézet Minns, was also shortlisted for the RTÉ Young Sports Person of the Year award, which went to Róisín Ní Riain, the swimmer who won silver and bronze at the Paralympics in Paris.

Dunlevy and Kelly were also top of the podium at the Paris Games, winning the TT and taking silver in the road race. They then almost immediately went on to the Worlds in Zurich and did the double again, being crowned TT and road race champions.

They faced some tough competition in the ‘team of the year’ category including the All Ireland-winning men’s Armagh footballers, men’s Clare hurlers, Cork camogie team and women’s Kerry footballers.

Also on the shortlist were Shelbourne FC, the Irish men’s rugby team, rowers Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy and Ireland’s 4X400m mixed relay team.

Rower Paul O’Donovan was named RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year after this year becoming the first Irish athlete to win medals at three consecutive Olympics. He won gold in the double sculls in Paris.
