The AI-generated election poster spotted on Drury Street in Dublin

An election poster featuring an AI-generated candidate with three arms has been spotted on Drury Street in Dublin.

The spoof poster bears the name Aidan Irwin, above the slogan “put matters into artificial intelligence’s hands”.

At first glance, it looks like any other election poster with a familiar layout and a red circle indicating to vote for him as number 1.

However, on closer inspection, the man in the picture has six fingers on one hand, three arms, and a distorted thumb.

The poster also bears the tagline, “AI Before People”.

It is not known who put up the poster, but there is no candidate running for the official General Election under that name.

The country goes to the polls this Friday, November 29, with candidates across the country mounting a final push for votes.

During the local and European elections earlier this year, the Electoral Commission warned candidates they should ensure any use of AI in election material is “clearly labelled”.

However, it has no power to sanction parties or candidates who fail to do so.
