Kildare’s Eoin Doyle has retired from inter-county football.

Eoin Doyle has brought a 13-year inter-county career to an end, Kildare GAA has confirmed.

As Kildare search for a new manager to replace Glenn Ryan, Doyle has used the vacuum to step away.

The Naas defender captained Kildare for four years between 2016 and 2019, having started out in 2012.

“Eoin has had a distinguished career, representing his county with honour and distinction, on and off the field of play,” said Kildare GAA in a statement.

“He has shown incredible commitment, discipline and outstanding leadership skills and has been someone that his fellow players have always looked up to,” the statement added.

“His consistent high standards on the field of play have seen him clock up over 100 competitive appearances in the white jersey.”

Doyle played international rules for Ireland in 2015 and was nominated for an Allstar in 2018.

The county’s former All-Ireland U-20 winning manager Brian Flanagan is considered the frontrunner to replace Ryan in the coming weeks.
