A former NFL player was arrested Saturday night for causing an alleged disturbance that included urinating on a fellow passenger during a Delta flight bound for Dublin, Ireland.
Gosder Cherilus was arrested after the flight was rerouted back to Logan Airport and handcuffed for disturbing a flight crew and disorderly conduct, according to Boston 25 News.
“Delta flight 154 from Boston to Dublin on August 17 returned to Boston Logan due to an unruly customer and was met by law enforcement,” a spokesperson for Delta told the outlet. “Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”
Cherilus allegedly urinated on another passenger, a source told Boston 25 News, and the first-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft will be arraigned on Monday in East Boston District Court.
Passengers impacted by the incident were booked onto a new flight that departed for Dublin on Sunday night and will arrive on Monday.
Cherilus, a tackle during his playing days, spent nine seasons in the NFL after being taken 17th overall by the Lions in 2008.
His career led him to spend five total seasons with the Lions before playing two for the Colts and two for the Buccaneers.
Cherilus appeared in 132 games during his career and started in 116 before he retired in 2016.
The 40-year-old is a Massachusetts native having played high school football at Sommerville High and earned Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic honors as a senior.
He played his entire college football career at Boston College and was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame on Oct. 27, 2023.
Cherilus’ Instagram bio lists him as the CEO of Bastion Companies along with being the founder of the Gosder Cherilus Foundation.
