The family of the couple killed in a hit-and-run in Dublin on St Stephen’s Day have said they’re ‘overwhelmed’ by the support they’ve received.
Parents Anthony Hogg, 40, and Georgina Hogg-Moore, 39, died after they were struck by a car as they crossed a road near the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre on Thursday.
Sharing an update on a GoFundMe page set up to help their two children, their loved ones wrote: ‘The family are overwhelmed by the support and generosity of everyone at this time. Thank you to you all.’
The organisers also paid tribute to Georgina and Anthony, writing: ‘Georgina and Anto were not just cherished parents, but also incredible individuals who touched the lives of everyone they met.
‘They were always the first to lend a helping hand, to support others without hesitation, and to spread kindness wherever they went.
‘Their beautiful children have been left without their loving Mam and Dad. As a community, we are rallying together to ensure that they are supported during this unimaginable time.’
They explained that the GoFundMe page, the proceeds of which will be put into a trust and managed by Georgina’s brother Ross, had been created to help provide for the children’s future and in the hope that they ‘can have the care, resources, and opportunities their parents would have wanted for them.’
‘While nothing can replace the love and presence of Georgina and Anto, we hope to ease the financial burden and create a foundation for their children to thrive,’ they added.
Hours after the incident on St Stephen’s Day, a man handed himself into Blanchardstown Garda Station and was arrested.
John Halpin, 45, of Whitestown Avenue in Dublin, appeared at Dublin District Court on Monday where he was charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of hit and run, including failing to offer assistance at the scene. He was remanded into custody.
