Emma Blain has been elected the new Lord Mayor of Dublin

A Fine Gael councillor Emma Blain has been elected as the new Lord Mayor of Dublin.

She will succeed the former Fine Gael councillor and newly elected TD for Dublin Bay South – James Geoghegan.

Ms Blain was elected as the 357th Lord Mayor of Dublin at the special meeting of Dublin City Council (DCC) in City Hall this evening.

The Fine Gael councillor was elected to represent the Pembroke local electoral area on DCC in the last local election in June. Previously, she had served as a councillor on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council since 2016.

Ms Blain, who has two children – Hunter (10) and Tilly (9) – grew up in Rathmines, where her father Sydney was the Principal of the Church of Ireland College of Education.

Following her graduation with an MA in Politics from UCD, she worked as a journalist with the Sunday Independent and is now the editor of the Church of Ireland Gazette.

She also has been an Irish delegate to the European Committee of the Regions since 2020.

Her priorities include the participation and promotion of sport within communities, particularly for women, and care for the elderly in the community and dementia awareness.

During her term as Lord Mayor, she said she aims to prioritise these areas alongside the positive promotion of Dublin City as an inviting and vibrant capital city.
