Florida State famously missed the cut for last season’s final four-team College Football Playoff, despite its 12-0 record and Atlantic Coast Conference title. FSU quarterback Jordan Travis was injured, which played a part in the Seminoles’ snub, then moved on after the 2023 season. Oregon State transfer D.J. Uiagalelei is expected to take Travis’ place for an offense that ranked No. 19 nationally in scoring (34.6 ppg), but otherwise yielded the spotlight to a big-time FSU defense. That could be a hallmark for coach Mike Norvell and company as the playoff field expands and the opportunity is there to reestablish Florida State as an elite program after missing the CFP and getting blown out by No. 6 Georgia, 63-3, in the Orange Bowl.

Georgia Tech was a competitive outfit in 2023 with a 7-6 season the Yellow Jackets capped with a 30-17 win over UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl. Coach Brett Key had a successful first full season after shedding the interim tag he picked up in 2022, and he brought back a number of key pieces to try and jump another level in ’24. Quarterback Haynes King is a dual threat that helps power one of the nation’s most productive rushing attacks along with running back Jamal Haynes, who ran for 1,257 yards. Top receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is a junior with a chance to fully break out after catching 48 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns as a freshman.

The Seminoles and Yellow Jackets are set for a noon ET start on ESPN. Live streams are available from FuboTV (free trial), DirecTV Stream (free trial) and SlingTV (low intro rate).
