FOR AS much as Oasis’ reunion brought joy to many there’s plenty who’d happily tell them Do Go Away.

The home of GAA will host the Irish leg of next summer’s UK and Ireland comeback tour.

But one man who used to grace the Croke Park surface as a player definitely won’t be among the crowd that show up on August 16 or 17.

2012 All-Ireland winner Eamon McGee shared his view on the BritPop icons via an amusing tale involving another Donegal stalwart from that era.

He tweeted: “I used to live with Christy Toye and he’d play Oasis songs on the guitar till the early hours literally every night.

“And every time I got outta bed to tell him to shut up he’d just sing louder.

“To this day I cannot listen to Wonderwall.”

The Gaoth Dobhair clubman didn’t find too many on the same wavelength among the replies though.

The top comments wryly urged: “Don’t look back in anger” and “Stop crying your heart out”.

Tuesday’s announcement means the All-Ireland finals next summer are all but certain to remain in July, with the hurling and football deciders provisionally penned in for the 20th and 27th respectively.

The All-Ireland ladies football and camogie finals look set for August 3 and 10, which means Croker would then be handed over for the gigs, which are set to land the GAA over €2million in revenue.

But a football championship structure change will determine what form the calendar takes next summer too.

A new system will go before the GAA central council next month to shake up the race for Sam Maguire.

The provincial championships would remain, and the eight finalists from those competitions and remaining top seven NFL finishers would be drawn to play against each other.

Team 16 would be the Tailteann Cup champions, which in this case would be Down.

Separate winners and losers groups of eight teams will be created from that round of results, and the counties on each side would all play off against each other.

GOALS LIVE! WIN IRELAND V ENGLAND TICKETS

FOOTBALL legends Tony Cascarino, Stuart Pearce, Andy Reid and Neil
O’Riordan will join The Irish Sun’s first live football preview event on Tuesday September 3 ahead of the Republic of Ireland v England match in The Aviva that weekend.

Goals Live 2024, in association with TonyBet and hosted by well-known sports commentator Dave McIntyre, promises to be an evening of entertainment, discussion, analysis and lively debate as the
panel delves into the upcoming big match between football rivals the Republic of Ireland and England.

The event, which is for over 18s only, will take place in The Camden, Dublin 2, from 6.15pm – 9pm.

The ticket includes a complimentary drink for attendees and each ticketholder will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a pair of match tickets to the big game in the Aviva on Saturday September 7.

Tickets are just €5 and available to purchase HERE.

The top four from the winners group would automatically make the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

The remaining four teams would then play off against the top four in the losers’ pod for the next four quarter-final spots.

All simple, right?

It could yet be tweaked and tailored for the next top brass meeting on September 7, and a new format could all go before a Special Congress on November 30th to come into place for 2025.

Either way, the July All-Ireland finals look set to stay.
