THIS weekend promises to be one full of drama and action on the GAA front, with three All-Ireland championships in full swing.
This week’s Saturday Games on RTÉ are the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-final clashes between the Leinster finalists Dublin and the Rebels of Cork (Throw-in: 1.15pm) and Munster finalists Clare and Lee Chin’s Wexford (Throw-in: 3:15pm).
Both games will take place at Semple Stadium in Tipperary.
GAAGO is full of football action this weekend, with three All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals in the shape of Galway v Monaghan (4pm), Tyrone v Roscommon (5pm) and Mayo v Derry (6.15pm).
Vinne Corey will hope that his Farneymen overcome the Tribesmen of Galway who will be out to progress having been denied by Armagh after their draw in Markievicz Park, Sligo.
Tyrone will hope for a similar result against Roscommon to when they met each other in the league this year, where the Red Hands came out 0-17 to 1-11 victors.
Mayo v Derry has been billed as one of the matches of the weekend, with both sides aching for their summer to continue, Derry having underperformed in terms of their own high standards and Mayo wanting to keep themselves on that road for a shot at the Sam Maguire Cup after a draw against the reigning champions Dublin last time out.
The Oak Leafers’ minor side is also in action on Saturday, with their All-Ireland semi against Kerry being shown on TG4 at 1.30pm this Saturday.
The weekend’s schedule continues into Sunday with the Tailteann Cup semi-finals taking over Croke Park.
Antrim’s run continues with the Saffrons facing stiff opposition in the shape of Laois, managed by former Armagh and Crossmaglen defender and SDLP MLA Justin McNulty.
Andy McEntee’s side will look to take one step closer to sealing some silverware for the first time since the Tommy Murphy Cup in 2008.
Down are also in action as they take on Sligo in a bid to reach their second Tailteann Cup final in two years after last year’s loss to Meath.
The fourth preliminary Quarter-final for the Senior All-Ireland football championship takes place in Inniskeen at 3pm this Sunday as Cork and Louth battle it out, with the game being shown on GAAGO.
The Ladies’ All-Ireland Senior Football Championship continues into round three with Waterford v Donegal (1.30pm) and Meath v Tipperary, Páirc Tailteann (3.30pm). on TG4, one of the competition’s main sponsors.
Two more Ladies’ Football fixtures will be streamed on TG4 Spórt’s YouTube channel with Galway playing Laois at Duggan Park and last year’s Intermediate All-Ireland champions Kildare taking on last year’s senior champions of Dublin in Manguard Park.
Both games are due to start at 2pm on Sunday, June 23.
The final TV game of the weekend will see Mayo and Armagh battle it out for the second spot in the All-Ireland minor football final as they face off at 5.30pm in Brothers Pearse Park, Galway, with the match being shown on TG4.
