Heavy delays for commuters amid issues on roads and rail lines across the capital

Commuters are facing another morning of heavy delays after several reported issues have caused delays across the capital.

In North Dublin, a number of traffic lights are out of order in the Donaghmede area of Dublin 13, leading to long delays as large volumes of traffic attempt to navigate busy junctions.

Dublin City Council has urged drivers to proceed with caution in the area and give way to vulnerable road users where appropriate.

A crash on the Ballymun slip (Junction 04) is causing heavy queues back onto the M1 Southbound this morning, with roadworks at the M1/M50 interchange adding to the congestion in the area.

Swords Road is extremely heavy again today, with major delays from the Dublin Tunnel through to the Three Arena.

Heavy queues will persist on the southbound carriageway as far as Lucan/Palmerstown due to large volumes of traffic bypassing the accident and diverting Junction 4.

There are currently lengthy inbound queues on the N4/M4 heading towards the capital, starting at Junction 4, Lucan Village.

Google traffic reports have indicated that motorists bypassing the M50, heading towards the Chapelizod bypass, and moving in the direction of Heuston Station are currently experiencing delays of approximately 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in the city centre, traffic is slow on Merrion Square North, Lincoln Place, Westland Row and Lombard St, but it doesn’t extend past City Quay, according to LiveDrive.

In South Dublin, all approaches to the Walkinstown Roundabout are experiencing unusual traffic delays despite no reported incidents or accidents.

Those using Dublin’s light rail aren’t faring much better this morning. Several issues on DART Lines across the city are causing heavy delays approaching the city centre.

According to Irish Rail, low rail adhesion is causing delays of 10 minutes or more through Killiney and Dún Laoighaire.

This is expected to have a knock-on effect on DART services throughout the morning.

Commuters using Dublin’s light rail aren’t faring much better this morning. Several issues on DART Lines across the city are causing heavy delays approaching the city centre.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail said: ‘DART services are operating with delays of up to +10mins as a result of low rail adhesion and knock-on delays caused by congestion on the line.’
