December is seeing exciting new location openings for some of our favourite coffee spots, as well as the closing of those we hold close to our heart – be sure to pay them a visit before they go …
Hello: Bread 41, Lower Kilmacud Road, Stillorgan
One of the most popular bakeries in Dublin has just opened another location in a renovated old Church in Stillorgan. The new bakery and café is located in a converted church on the former premises of fruit and veg shop, The Fruit Place. At this location, they are focusing on serving their covetable baked goods from chimi churi savoury bakes and and their famous range of sourdough bread to praline and chocolate morning buns – which can be seen being prepared in the bakery through the glass windows in the shop – plus coffee, cookbooks and tote bags. They offer reusable coffee cups for €5, which you can keep or return to get your money back. Opening hours are 7am to 3pm, seven days a week. @bread41bakery
Hello: Grindstone Speciality Coffee, Dublin Landings, The Docklands
A beloved favourite is Grindstone coffee, whose primary residence is beside Ballaly luas stop – a must-stop shop to get your caffeine fix before heading into Dundrum for Christmas shopping – has now opened at the impressive new Docklands development, with the interior designed by Irish companies Third Mind Design and RedFern Construction. If you are a fan of 3fe coffee, Grindstone will be your new favourite spot. They will also continue to serve Greenville Deli toasted sandwiches, and artisanal baked goods and products from om Margadh, Medialuna, Village Dairy and Goat’s Oats. As the sole café operator in Dublin Landings, Grindtsone will bring the neighbourhood charm it has established in Dundrum to this freshly completed urban hub. Not too long ago, Artybaker opened its fifth location in the heart of Blackrock market, offering freshly baked pastries, breads and speciality coffee. For some top-notch baked goods and pink cup of quality coffee, this is the place to go. The almond croissant, cinnamon buns, pain au chocolat and specials of the day are all worth a try. On weekdays, Artybaker opens from 7.30am to 3pm and on weekends 8.30am to 3pm. @artybaker
Goodbye: The Morning Bakery, Pleasants Street, Dublin
After nine years in business, The Morning Bakery’s last day is December 15, so be sure to pay them a visit before then. Serving speciality coffee and freshly baked goods made daily in-house, The Morning Bakery has been one of Dublin’s favourite bakeries and coffee stops, as proven by the flood of support and well wishes they have received since they announced their upcoming closure. The gorgeous coffee shop has attracted a loyal community, so owners Brian and Kev encourage visitors to stop by as they prepare for a new chapter. The two have had a fabulous run there, but the situation for hospitality and food retailers has made it impossible to stay afloat. Open daily from 8am to 4pm. @themorningbakery
