The city-centre hotel has had a refresh with upgraded rooms, an Executive Lounge and a clever new food and cocktail offering, making for a serious mid-range stay just off St Stephen’s Green

The Green is one of those hotels I’ve walked past many times, but rarely stepped inside. It has a prime location right on the edge of Stephen’s Green, but the entrance isn’t as immediately striking as some of the bigger names nearby. However, after a rake of refurbishment works, including a complete restructuring of the restaurant spaces, reworked rooms and the addition of a snazzy new cocktail bar, The Green has seriously upped its game.

Though the entrance may be discreet, the lobby is definitely swish — there’s a glossy marble and gold front desk, with a charming and friendly team standing behind. To the side is a small lounge area, with armchairs and books, but the winner on this floor is the Atrium, a co-working space-slash-coffee area. With floor-to-ceiling glass, rattan globe lightshades, greenery dripping from the ceiling and big shared desks, it’s a great place to hang out if you have work to do — it’s also an ideal spot to snoop on the people walking towards Stephen’s Green, spotted from your seat. Really, the location can’t be beaten — the city is on your doorstep, but it feels quiet and calm inside. 8/10
