Many a back was slapped and hearty sigh of accomplishment raised yesterday in Dublin – or so the pictures indicate – as the ‘Capital City’ plan was launched, and much to the relief of the city’s beleaguered inhabitants, we now have a “brighter future” and “a vision”…in other words, we have hope.
That would be your main takeaway, anyway, if you’d lent your ear to the Taoiseach or any of the other ministers or VIPs attending the launch, such was the apparent effect the unveiled plan and its ten vaunted ‘Big Moves’ had on them. Minister Darragh O’Brien described the report as a “catalyst for regeneration, development and growth,” leading the listener to believe it must possess some special insight or ‘learning’ that was absent prior to the taskforce’s investigation of the matter.
